Film Trailer Analysis 2
This is the film trailer for the horror film Paranormal Activity. This film was about a family living at home who were haunted by a ghost who would not leave them alone. This movie was a huge success in the box office.
This trailer is a very clever one because they don't just show you who was in the trailer they actually show a screening of the movie in a theatre. So it starts of with a lot of people queuing up to watch the movie, and then skips to the movie being played in the theatre, the trailer is also very clever because it shows the viewers reactions to the movie. This is clever because it would really entice people to come and watch the movie. The setting of the trailer is set in the theatre but the setting of the movie is set in a normal suburban household in america. The fact that the film is set in middle class america makes it even more real and would reach out to the masses. The technical uses of this movie are also something to admire because not only do they only use a few high definition hand-held cameras but there is no special effects like CGI or fake blood used its all real effects and this is even more impressive because the movie is so well produced on such a small budget. The use of shot types and editing in the movie is also very clever, because its all filmed on handheld camera there is no need to use a lot of shot types and most of it is all long shots (in the bedroom) or canted handheld shots. the editing is all rough cuts which is good because it adds to the effect that it really is a home made movie on a small budget. There is no special lighting or sound in the movie its all just exactly how it would be in real life. The structure of the film is a day by day film with no jumps by a day or a month. all they do is fast forward by hours and minutes. It's really clever because it doesn't ruin the story line and tis way you can see how the story line develops day by day. in the trailer the gender roles are as they would be as the women is depicted to be weak and always hiding behind the male in metaphorical terms. There are two main characters in the trailer that we see the male and the female. you can't tell much about them in the trailer just that the male doesn't think anything is happening and the female character is very scared about what is going on. There is a constant theme of mystery in the trailer all the way through, you can never really tell what is going on or what is happening. The main thing i really like about this trailer is the fact that we constantly get to see what the audience actually think of it and if they like it or not.
